A rapidly deepening low pressure system bringing heavy rain, early-season snowfall, and strong winds is expected. Locations: central, western, and northern Newfoundland.Total rainfall: 30 to 40 mm, with locally higher amounts possible.Total snowfall: up to 5 cm inland and over higher terrain.Maximum wind gusts: northeasterly 80 km/h shifting to northwesterly 80 km/h.Time span: Tuesday morning until Wednesday night.Remarks: A low pressure system will rapidly deepen as it approaches Newfoundland from the south on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall and strong northeasterly winds are expected over much of the island. Once the system moves out to sea, winds will shift to a strong northwesterly and temperatures will begin to fall. The rain will become mixed with or change over to snow in some areas. Snowfall accumulations are expected to vary significantly with elevation as temperatures hold within a degree or so of the freezing mark.Travel could become difficult.
