Special Weather Statement issued March 29 at 3:29AM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC

Issue date: 2026-03-29T07:29+00:00

Minimum relative humidity values this afternoon will range from between 15 and 25 percent over the Piedmont and northern Sandhills to between 25 and 35 percent over the southern Sandhills and Coastal Plain. The low relative humidity values combined with very dry fuels will lead to an increased risk of wildfires throughout central North Carolina. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off of dry leaves and grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Please be reminded that a statewide burn ban issued by the NC Forest Service is currently in place. Open burning of any kind is illegal.
