Special Weather Statement issued March 17 at 1:14PM AKDT by NWS Juneau AK

Issue date: 2026-03-17T21:14+00:00

The low pressure system in the gulf will continue to push snow showers over SE AK through the week. With longer days, the southern panhandle is starting to see high temperatures increase into the high 30s to low 40s. Average snowfall accumulations should be around 1 to 3 inches per 24 hours, however due to the showery nature of the snow, accumulations will be highly variable with periods of melting in sunny breaks. Isolated areas and higher elevations could likely see higher snow amounts. The main impact from times of moderate snow will be lowered visibilities that could impact travel by air, land, and sea. Heaviest snow showers can quickly move over an area reducing visibilities to below one mile, with conditions quickly improving behind the shower.
