The combination of extremely dry fuels, very warm temperatures, gusty southwest winds, and reduced relative humidity will lead to an increased risk of wildfires Thursday. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. A statewide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service is currently in place. Open burning of any kind is illegal.
